About Us
More Than a Basketball Club
The Townsville Fire is one of Australia’s most successful professional women’s sporting organisations and a proud symbol of North Queensland.
Founded in 2001, the Fire competes in the Women’s National Basketball League (WNBL), the premier women’s basketball competition in Australia. Over more than two decades, the club has grown from a regional sporting team into a national powerhouse, inspiring generations of athletes and creating unforgettable moments for our community.
Today, the Fire stands as a five-time WNBL Champion, with championship victories in 2015, 2016, 2018, 2023 and 2026. These achievements have cemented the club’s reputation as one of the most successful teams in league history and a benchmark for excellence both on and off the court.
Built by Community
What makes the Townsville Fire truly unique is our community ownership model.
In 2011, when the future of the club was uncertain, the North Queensland community rallied together to ensure the Fire remained part of the region’s sporting landscape. Since then, the club has become a powerful example of what can be achieved when a community stands behind its team.
Every member, sponsor, volunteer, supporter and partner plays a role in the success of the Fire. We are proudly community-owned, community-driven and committed to creating opportunities for future generations across North Queensland.
Representing the North
The Fire proudly represents Townsville and the broader North Queensland region on the national stage.
As the only professional women’s sporting team in Northern Australia, we carry the responsibility of showcasing the talent, resilience and spirit that defines our region. Whether competing in front of packed crowds at the Fire Pit or representing Australia through national and international pathways, our players embody the values of hard work, connection and pride.
More Than Game Day
The impact of the Townsville Fire extends far beyond basketball.
Through school visits, community programs, regional tours, academy pathways, youth engagement initiatives and charitable partnerships, the club reaches thousands of young people every year. Our mission is to use the power of sport to inspire confidence, create opportunity and strengthen communities throughout North Queensland.
We believe elite sport can be a vehicle for positive change, and we are committed to making a lasting impact both on and off the court.
The Fire Pit
The Townsville Entertainment & Convention Centre, known to our fans as the Fire Pit, has become one of the most exciting home-court environments in Australian sport.
Driven by passionate members and supporters, Fire home games deliver an electric atmosphere unlike anywhere else in the WNBL. From sold-out crowds and championship celebrations to family-friendly entertainment and community connection, the Fire Pit is where North Queensland comes together.
Our Vision
To be Australia’s leading women’s sporting organisation and a source of pride for North Queensland.
Our commitment is simple:
Compete for championships.
Develop elite athletes and leaders.
Inspire the next generation.
Strengthen our community.
Represent North Queensland with pride.
The Townsville Fire is more than a team.
We are a community. We are a movement. We are North Queensland’s team.
Proud Past. Blazing Future.
